Continuing Status and Promotion

The University of Arizona Handbook for Appointed Personnel (UHAP) sets forth the official policies regarding continuing status at The University of Arizona.
UHAP 4 A.3, "Promotion and Continuing Status", served as a reference for the Dean's Advisory Committee (DAC) in the development of the College of Humanities' Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion & Continuing Status for Continuing-Eligible Academic Professionals.
Each department or program with continuing-eligible personnel also has unit-level criteria and procedures that are appropriate to the disciplines of its academic professionals. COH academic professionals may obtain unit-level information concerning the continuing status process from their head or director.

At the end of each spring semester, the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs publishes guidelines and checklists to use in preparing promotion and tenure/continuing status dossiers.  It is the responsibility of departments and candidates to ensure that the dossier is prepared according to the guidelines.

The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs also holds workshops each spring designed to provide information about the promotion and tenure/continuing status process.  The workshops explain the university’s review process and offers guidance on presenting the promotion and tenure/continuing status dossier.

All candidates for promotion and/or tenure/continuing status candidates, chairs of promotion and tenure/continuing status committees, heads and directors are encouraged to attend the workshops.  A candidate for third-year review will also find this workshop helpful in becoming acquainted with the dossier preparation requirements at The University of Arizona.
